Squeak squeak

My sister has a knack for annoying me. The latest addition: the "ball" from the "fishball" game ala captain's ball in the water she had during her school's mass swim. Its the kind that when you squeeze it creates that squeaky sound. Very much like the shoes those toddlers wear, the kind when they walk, they have that sound coming from their feet.

GAHHHH. This is the monster.

I'm turning deaf! She will blast it in my ear and create rhythms and sing them to me. Oh man Oh man. haha. God help me.

Paranoia

Wow, something's gotten into me, and I'm not quite sure what exactly. I'm getting paranoid really easily nowadays. Its horrible. Really. Maybe its caused mainly by the anticipation of the results. Sucks, but its inching closer day by day.

And the worst part is that we don't even know when yet the results will be released. Tentatively it'll be Monday? Since the As will be released a week after the Os. Oh well. I shan't dwell on this highly depressing topic. Well, if my name was Marcus Tan or Justin Kuan I won't be the least bit worried since they've been getting 4As since the start of J2. Hrrmmph.

Oh well.

-shrugs-

I just pray that I'll overcome this state of paranoia fast.

And I wish I had someone to lean on.

The unhelpful Uni guide for dummies

I went for the NTU talk at Hotel Intercontinental today. I must say I feel pretty much enlightened after it because I got to know a couple of things that made me go, "Oh wow/really."

For the NS-going guys, although you guys aren't going in to the U till two years time, it is advisable to apply for it as soon as the A level results are released. By doing so, you are securing yourself a place in the U of your choice once its approved. Another plus point is that should the fees increase by 2007, your year of admission, you pay the un-increased fees of 2005. That's because you've applied earlier and secured a place in that U.

(( this is where I go, "Oh really?" ))

Anyways, as most of you already would have known, NTU has opened a few new schools, namely its HSS and School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS). I went for the talk on SPMS and realised that they "koped" quite a few NUS professors. The dean of SPMS was from NUS, so were a few of the HODs. Hmm. I thought that was quite a clever move.

So anyways, with all this competition going on, NTU has to ensure that its faculty of science is comparable to that of NUS. Of course its a big leap, since NUS has been around since.. urh..I don't really know when. I was a bit hesitant, apprehensive, doubtful about being part of this pioneer batch because all along my aim was to get into NUS. (( no one knows Science like NUS )) However, what i learnt is that as an incentive, (( a REALLY ATTRACTIVE one at that )) should I end up taking, say, a basic degree in Chemistry at NTU's SPMS, I would be in a 4 year program with Honours.

And this is where i almost exclaimed out really loudly, "Oh really?!"

This 4 yr program is something like the IP my sister's in. And its friggin attractive! But this would mean me giving up my dream of being in NUS. GAHHHHHHh. See, cause in NUS if I'm doing Chemistry, it'll be a basic 3 year course and I would not be ensured honours unless my results are good. However, NTU's taken it up one notch. I've never heard of any uni offering honours courses till today. Haha. Maybe I'm suaku lah, but seriously! Its really attractive. If I enter NUS and don't get honours, that's it. I only have a basic bachelor. hmm. On the other hand, if I take up NTU's course, I'll be guaranteed with honours ((and lots of hardwork)) and I can choose to further my studies.

GAHHHH. I'm in a serious dilemma. Serious serious. I still want to be part of NUS. This is the dilemma after O Levels once again. Before the Os, I was bent on going to NJC. I was too lazy to appeal, hence stayed in SA. No regrets, but I gave up my dream school. Yikes. Its happening all over again.

But then again, it all depends on my results. If my results turn out like absolute crap then I'd be happy to be in a uni.

And when I told my sister about NTU, the first thing she said was "eee. NTU so pok kak." // translated: eee. NTU so lousy. (( without even hearing about their new incentives and their imported deans and HODs from NUS. )) Its the mindset, I guess.

Hmm. Thanks man.

Sights and smells

I went out with my family on Saturday night for the usual dinner because my mum would be really lazy to cook on Saturday nights. We went to eat at some obscure coffeeshop in Kallang, where my dad boasted about his first day as a Fujitec technician and he had to climb up some lift, which was a daunting task. I didn't know my dad was afraid of stuff. haha.

So anyways, what was so unusual about that dinner was that we ended up touring places in Singapore that we've never been together as a family, and I thought that was really nice.

My mum has been whining about going to esplanade, so we went there and looked around. It was super packed, just like the other night because of the River Hong Bao thingy. Then my dad drove us to Marina South, that super cheap Bowling and Billiard place, with the seafood centres and really nice park. (( :D )) But the park is super dead at night. Literally.

Haha. I didn't know Singapore had such nice places. Hah. This is what you call a true blue Singaporean. And anyways, thanks to me and my big mouth, I reminded my mum that she's been whining about going to Mustafa Centre for a long, long time. (( WTH right, of all places ))

So thanks to yours truly, we ended up driving along Veerasamy Road, then the grand Mustafa centre came into view. Actually, frankly speaking, I was really impressed by the place. They sell anything and everything under the sun. Yeap, you should go there one day. Prices are okay, some cheaper than usual. It should be the Harrods of Singapore. I'm serious.

Bahh. That was a nice trip. Now I really wanna drive. (( okay, zero relevance ))

The birds and the bees

How exciting was yesterday? I must blog this down. My parents were basking in their half day CNY-eve glory, shopping at Arab street, my sister was happily propped up in a cinema, probably at cineleisure watching 'Shall We Dance' and I was imparting knowledge into the young ones. I was tutoring my neighbour's kids.

Well, I shall aptly quote Nadiah here. She said "nak pandaikan anak orang bukannye senang beb." (Not easy to make someone's kid smart, okay..) Gahhh. I can't agree more with her.

So anyways, what was so different, so intriguing (amasham zat), so blearghh about yesterday's lesson was the fact that I was at the "Reproduction" chapter of the darned Primary 5 syllabus. And the kid, Syazwan wasn't about to make it easy for me. See, he's the typical playful kid who won't be interested in anything that doesn't interest him, namely his studies. So he'll only be listening when the topic im teaching interests him.

So, the textbook had colour diagrams labelling the parts and all, until he asked me,

"So how does the sperm meet the egg ah?"
"Eh then how the sperm come out?"
Alamaaakkkk. I shook my head and couldn't believe what I was being paid to do. Aiyaa. What do you expect me to tell him!??!!? I can't corrupt his pristine mind!!! So I just told him that he'll learn more about this in detail in Sec 2. In the meantime, I guess he was happy with whatever I explained to him. BAHH. Thank God.
So everything was good, and he was laughing at the parts asking why they were so funnily drawn and we talked about how the embryo develops after the sperm meets the egg. There was a flow chart showing the different stages of development, the embryo getting bigger at each stage. So the drawing was pretty detailed, showing the all-important umbilical cord. So Syazwan pointed to it and asked if it was the privates of the embryo, in a very crude mat way. (Eh, tu ____ dier eh?)
All I could do was to shut my eyes and almost died laughing. I was so embarassed I didn't know what to do. Or say, for that matter. Then after regaining my composure, I told him that it was the umbilical cord.
Kids DO say the darndest things, sometimes.

Mars

I've got a Mars Bar sitting innocently on my desk. Now the question is, should I or shouldn't i?

BAHHHHHH.

I'm such a sucker for Mars Bars!

Okay, enough pointless rambling about the Mars Bar. My sanity is balancing precariously on the edge of a precipice. I realise the one kilo I put on was NOT because I ate too much. My food intake has been very much the same. I put on that kilo because... ((hold your breaths))

I SLEEP FAR TOO MUCH!

Dig this: I sleep at eleven-ish, twelve-ish every night. I wake up the next morning at eleven-ish, twelve-ish. Am I a pig or what? Either that or my body thinks its attached to a princess. Tsk, tsk. This habit must stop at once! I made some (inchy) progress today. I woke up at 9.

BAHHH.

Back to the Mars Bar. I think I shouldn't. But if you think you shouldn't, you should. So should I..?

Yah lah. I should shut up.

An afternoon in Bugis.

Woohoo! Met Lydia after work yesterday and we combed the entire (or part thereof) of Bugis Village. Why spend money in Parco Bugis Junction when you can spend half the amount for the same items in Bugis Village? Now that's what I call financial planning.

Actually both of us were feeling extra reimbursed after our paycheck so, we went to eat her fishball noodles that she's been craving for years. Had some girl talk, updating each other about what's going on in our lives. Well, mine's pretty mundane just tutoring kids. But hers! Hehehe. Anyways, there was nothing quite impressive in Parco, so we headed down to Bugis Village.

Oh man. Going out with Lydia... where do I exactly start? First, you'll discover alot of places you never knew existed! Okay, maybe its just me who's suaku because I thought Bugis Village was just ONE alley. This girl turned into every nook and cranny, to my utter amazement. ((still can laugh at me))

Oh yes, yes, plus where ever you go with her, you'll get it at the cheapest price. Yayy. MDB powerr lah. Hehe. Okay, now we need to plan a gathering when our army boys book out on Chinese New Year! Yayy!
