Today.

This is yet another incoherent rambling of mine.

Okay, so I HAD to complete my CM1161 assignment. I really don't see why its called group work, when we don't split the assignment up in the first place. I have already spent 3 days on the assignment and I'm barely halfway done.

Its sooooo incredibly tedious to type out mathematical symbols on Microsoft Word. Do you know? Do you know? Do you know?

Its driving me insane.

---

And the fact that my sister is becoming slightly delusional is NOT helping. She said she heard the computer say "hello" to her last night. And she's trying to convince me that yes, she heard the voice.

She has been working on some Biography of Sir Francis Bacon, or whatever. Its driving her mad too.

Sigh.

We ARE going crazy.

When we're bored...

Shah was drawing something, and she took an awfully long time. So when she hit the send button, this is what i got.

(click for bigger picture)

So sweet right? But upon further scrutiny, I was a little disturbed by her drawing.

I knew I shouln't have installed the handwriting feature on msn for her.

Haha!

But we're really bored man.

Live from CM1131 Lecture!

As you can see, I'm stuck with the above. She totally, successfully fooled me by her perfect German, using word forms that I haven't learnt. (oh, now she's correcting my typing!) Anyway, she finally introduced me to her German tutor, Ms Babelfish.altavista.com. Damn. I should have known. I thought she was ally-ing with Syaban or some German linguist.

---

Me: Why do you always get disconnected?
Alfian: Don't know, my wireless something wrong..
Me:Oh..
Alfian: The guy at the computer centre said my wireless needs a wire.

Lab!

Today's labday! The first Lab session of the semester! Today we made salicylic acid crystals! It was too fun! I just thought the whole making of the saturated solution was really tedious... Alfian was my fumehood neighbour. Because you know, I'm after him on the namelist.

DAMN.

I used to be at the top of the namelist everytime. Well, being at the first fumehood rocks because you're close to the sink, so that makes washing easy. But nevermind, two's good too! He was totally chatting up the really pretty, sweet-looking Australian exchange student at fumehood 4! Tsk tsk.

Alfian had the best crystals man (long needle like ones, compared to mine which were shorter needle like ones). The lab coordinator, Dr Kubal (who totally rocks, btw) was pretty impressed by his crystals and she was really nice to us, helping us with the saturation and stuff.

before putting it on the hot plate.

And you know what was the most exciting part? All the while we were learning Organic Chem back in JC, we just put "reflux" as the condition, but we didn't really know what on earth reflux was. Today I finally knew, because we had to set up our very own reflux system. Cool stuff.

Oh well it was fun while it lasted because now I got to do the freaking lab report (which sucks, by the way).

German Day!

Woohoo! I love wednesdays because I only have German! 10-12 lecture and 12-1 tutorial. So during lecture we were seated behind Gabriel and I overheard him asking this girl when her tutorial is. I overheard him saying that his tutorial is today, after the lecture. TOTALLY MINE LA.

So I asked him "eh! your tutorial today?"
"ya"
"mine too!"
"ahhh set set we go together"

Okay, so it was set. So we walked from AS4(lecture place) to AS6(tutorial place) but neither of us knew the exact room. We both know it was 02-0something though. So we walked to the room where I had my German tutorial last sem, 02-06. He entered and said "Guten Morgen" to the Frau. So we both took our seats. We were early, and there were only 3 other girls in class. I sat directly opposite the Frau and was thinking that she's prettier in person, because the picture of her on her website made her look really fierce.

So after 3 minutes or so,

Frau (to Gabriel): What did you say just now?
Gabriel: uhh, Guten Morgen..
Frau: oh, Guten Morgen is good morning in German is it?
Gabriel: uhhh, yaaaa...
Frau: oh ya, but this is FRENCH class, not GERMAN.

BARRRRRGHHHHH!

Das ist tres embarassing!

OMG OMG I wanted to drop down and DIE on the spot. So the 3 girls laughed at us and I noticed her dictionary said "FRENCH". ARRRRRRRRR.

While leaving Gabriel added "oh well at least now all of you know how to say Good Morning in German!"

So we left and went next door, to 02-05, where Frau Leucke (last sem's tutor) was just leaving.

ARRRRRR. Should have known better.

So when (the real)Frau Ritter entered the class, goodness, gracious me she was drop-dead gorgeous. Gabriel nudged me. "Eh, shes voluptuous ah!" HAHA! Really. And shes so fun and bubbly. Its great. Woohoo!

SongFeat.

I don't really like doing this (posting up song lyrics), but its really hard to pass a really great, meaningful song.

"Vienna" - Billy Joel

Slow down, you crazy child
you're so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you're so smart, tell me
Why are you still so afraid?

Where's the fire, what's the hurry about?
You'd better cool it off before you burn it out
You've got so much to do and
Only so many hours in a day

But you know that when the truth is told..
That you can get what you want or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even
Get halfway through
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight
Tonight...
Too bad but it's the life you lead
you're so ahead of yourself that you forgot what you need

Though you can see when you're wrong, you know
You can't always see when you're right. You're right

You've got your passion, you've got your pride
but don't you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you crazy child
and take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while
it's all right, you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

And you know that when the truth is told
that you can get what you want or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through
Why don't you realize, Vienna waits for you
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

Don't think I'm quite myself these days. heh.

My warped mind.

You know, I think I have a weird and warped mind. I was just thinking of the silly things I think up. I still don't know how my mind works.

For example, I have this thinking that if you talk too loudly in a library, the noise will cause the library to collapse.

Also, if you carry haversack bags, you'll grow shorter. Because the bag pushes down on both shoulders, so it'll make you shorter.

Then if you see threads sticking out of your clothes and you attempt to pull it out, your clothes will fall apart. You know, like in those cartoons.

Gawd, I AM weird.

So early for whatttt.

Man, I'm in such a frumpy mood today. NOW. Its 7.24 am right now, and I bet everyone I know is still snug under their bedsheets dreaming about pixies, fairies and what have you. You know what?! I'm in FREAKING school. The forum is dead. The only movement around is from the birdies hopping on the stairs. (i've got a meeting at 8am)

NUS life, NUS life.

Ok seriously after what was revealed last night, I've been in a relatively bad mood. So I think I should stop here. Just no mood for anything la.

On a brighter note, my sister is coming home from OBS todayy! Yey, no more sleeping alone and the house will be noisy again!

Arab Classes and the like.

My parents have been talking about learning the Arab language and stuff, so it will be possibile for them to have some communication with the people when they go for Haj again, God-willing. So after asking around, my parents settled for the lesson at Masjid Tentera -- yes, the same place NUSMS is having their Arab class.

So today was the first lesson and as with every other language class, you will have to start by learning to ask what's a person's name and how to answer that age old question. My mum said the teacher was pretty quiet and just wrote stuff and explained, nothing out of the ordinary...until this supervisor guy barged in and told them that copying is NOT the way to learn a language and yada yada. Stuff that they told us in German class and they keep emphasizing that we have to practice speaking it.

So this bubbly supervisor guy went around asking the guys to ask each other. "whats your name" and "my name is so and so" You know, try to create scenarios. So after he was done with the guys, he moved on to the ladies. Full house for guys but 5 ladies. 4 were nus students. heh.

If you don't know my mum, she's the type who always sits infront in class. So the guy went on to asking my mum.

guy: "whats your name?" -in arab la-
My mum: huh? dont wannttttt!!!!! -violent fashion-

Haha! WTH then the whole class erupted in laughter. OH MANNNNN.

woohoo! today's a late day. I end at 6 freaking pm la. Anyway, this live from campus entry would not contain any pictures, like the previous two. I'm afraid people who read this will get maggots in their eyes.

Well theres this couple seated in the same row as all 11 of us. And were PDA-ing the WHOLE time. The last I checked, he had his head on her chest. Ain thinks he has a sensitive head that maybe if he rests it on hard surfaces like her shoulder, he'll get a migraine.

GROSS LA.

Now u know why I'm NOT putting pictures up.

Aus liebe zum Automobile.

Everytime I see Alfian these are the two things he will ask me.

1. -finger pointing to open mouth- "makan?"

2. "amy, when are you getting a car?"

So today was no different. Over lunch, he was telling us that we should buy a car and leave it in school. Just for travelling purposes. So no road tax and yada yada. After mentally working out the finances, he thought it was wiser to just steal a taxi and use it in school to travel from fac to fac. Dazril suggested that we provide a chauffeur service so we could earn money. A while later at the bus stop, Dazril suggested stealing a Merc taxi, taknak kalah. Baiklah, Dazril. Shah was just lazy to entertain us building our sandcastles in the air. Haha!

So while we oogled at cars that were all around campus, I fantasized about the cars I wanna drive. So here is a top 5 list. (with Merc A160 and Hyundai Getz not far behind)

5. Nissan March

This is the one I've been oogling at since I entered NUS. Its always parked outside S16 and it makes me drool. This one should preferably be in orange or green!

4. Honda Jazz!

Woohoo! My family is a big fan of Honda, and I love the jazz! Its spacious and rims will look good on it! Preferably in Red or Blue! Yeyy!

3. Suzuki Swift!

Gawd I love this car. The body, the wheels the everything. Well if I were to drive this, I'll get bigger rims. Preferably in red or black-grey.

2. Volkswagen Beetle!

Actually I prefer the Beetle Cabriolet butttttt, driving a Cabriolet in Singapore damn poser la. So lets just stick to the Beetle. Preferably in red, or lime green! Plus I love their tag line - Aus liebe zum Automobile: For the love of the Automobile

and finallyyy, top of the listtttt.....

1. Mini Cooper (woohoo!)

Who can possibly hate this baby. Preferably in red or black-grey. However, the price is enough to sustain my shopping sprees for the next 10 years.

Money issues and all, I think I'll just stick to driving the family Accord la.

Its not that I don't like it. Its just that it's freaking long, so parking's a bitch. I like small selfish cars. heh.

But snapping myself back to reality, I'm not rich, so I can't possibly afford any of these until I start working, God-willing.

Besides, a bus ride to NUS costs 85cents.

It has to stop, man.

I'm not sure if any of you are following the Bloglitics happening right in our very own local cyberia. I won't post up any links because I simply don't want to be involved (by trackbacks, etc) or contribute anything to the conglomerate of stuff hanging in cyberspace. I thought I could just keep mum about it, but I really cannot hold it anymore.

Seriously, I think if you've got a famous blog, all the more you should be weary of what you say. You can't just go around proclaiming your views like its Hyde Park, or say really controversial stuff that are bound to cause some form of furore because ultimately, in the end it is you who will have to face the music.

On another note, famous blog or not famous blog, controversial stuff should just not be in pixels. Paper diary, go ahead, but just not somewhere public.

Oh wells. Blogger in question did some ruthless impersonation on a blog filled with so much hate. I guess thats it then. The freedom of cyberspace. 60 year olds can say they're 18 in a teen chatroom, I can say I'm Bill Gates' secret wife, live in a 6 storey mansion, drive a limited edition Lamborghini, complete with (photoshopped)pictures and everyone will believe me. HAHA!

Like that's ever gonna happen.

Anyway I just think with the anonymity the internet provides, anything can be done. The person you communicate with over the net or the author of your favourite blog may not be exactly who he/she is. It sometimes really isn't a bad thing. Its only when sick people abuse it, then it becomes shitty.

Okay 8am lecture coming right up. Need to catch some sleep.

Once a saint, always a saint.

Before all of you groan at the incredibly cliched notion, I really am having flashbacks of the Malan Road compound as I browse through the pictures of the new campus. Orientation, lessons for J2, assembly on the TRACK (remember, remember?) everything is coming back and I can't help but reminisce.

They have proper TABLES in the audi (this link has a pic of Mr Stanley Ong my ultimate fave Physics tutorrrrrrr too!), guys. No more makeshift lap-tables. No more crooked writing because you're writing on ur lap or file or whatever. The LTs are so nice. I wish I was JC1 again!

Don't get me started about the cafe (pronouced caff)!

Track, with soccerguys doing their routine warmups. Why no rugby boys?!

A walk through the neighbourhood.

My clever sister who borrowed the library book requested that I return the book for her today, because its due and because I end early. I was ultimately lazy to take the bus to Bukit Batok Central from KR Terminal, although it IS a straight bus plus the whole adult-fare-non-45cents busride is a pain. However, I was pretty glad I did go to Westmall on a school day, after school.

Well because what I saw was what I used to do in those Crescent days. Kids from many schools just hanging out, without having to worry about axial and equatorial positions in organic compounds or the Conformational Mobility of Cyclohexane.

There were the Bukit Batok kids -- those from schools around Bukit Batok who walk as if they own the whole world just because they're carrying the A Math textbook. Groups of girls carrying the same bag, wear the same hairpin at exactly the same angle at the same spot on their heads, you know.

There were kids from non-Bukit Batok area -- thats me, mostly Crescentians. Hey! Whatever happened to the rule of not going out after school because the DM will be at random malls waiting to catch you? It was nice seeing the Crescent uniform again. Gawd, I realise how toot I must have looked because those kids were unbelievably toot.

There were JC kids -- not me. I didn't hang out at Westmall when I was in SA. No time because I was a nerdy-perdy. Go home study. Mostly from PJC and I realise that they changed their PE Tshirt! Okay sorry if its old news, but I think Dri-fit PE tshirts are really cool! Plus the PJ ones are nice too.

Then I went into G2000 and saw this georgeous long sleeve blouse for $19! They're having a final reduction sale, so go visit. And then I bumped into Faizola, okay well not bumped into, cos I don't think he saw me. I was leaving and he was browsing through the Men's section, well, duh (good deals there too).

So it was back to the bus interchange, more kids in uniform. Usual la, rowdy boys, girls crowding around God-knows-what and this RGS girl doing homework. Really-- I'm NOT kidding! (generally)They seriously do homework/study EVERYWHERE. The other time I was in the train beside this sec1 RGS girl and she had her worksheets on her lap, pencil case in one hand, pen in the other, calculator sandwiched between her thighs. Either that or they'll be reading notes and mouthing to themselves.

And just now at the interchange, this RGS girl, who was in RJC, I presume, because of her badge, (duh) occupied the whole stool with her books, file, notes, markers etc. And she was violently highlighting some notes and referring to books, etc. Haha! I found it pretty amusing though. Was she going to study there the whole day or something?

I digress.

So as I was saying, I was pretty glad I made the trip because it reminded me of how I was 5-odd years back.

Bahh. I miss wearing uniforms.

Live from Campus!

Today's the second day of term and gawd, I just did the stupidest thing everrrrrrrrrr.

I needed a power point to plug in my laptop, because I didn't want to rely on the battery. Well, so did Shah, more so because she didn't bring her battery. So in total we needed 2 power points. However, at S9, the power points are all installed singly.

Shah and I found this nice bench but it had only one power point.

Yes, that one.

So the next one is like a few metres away, so since we needed 2 points, why not we move the bench in the middle, so we can use both points.

So the two of us, (with all our might) tried to move the table.. and it didn't move ONE BIT.

And then we found out why.

Man! The bench is freaking nailed to the ground! Duhhh.

And gawd, here I am experiencing the exact same thing.

Hurts like mad la! Its crazy!

If Shah hears about this, she'll tell me its retribution for laughing at her and the snail, haha! Kurang asam. But nevermind ah, thats why we totally love each other, man.

Minutes later she stopped studying and started cheering this snail on. With clapping and all.

Ya-Ya teens kids

Well I am writing this in conjunction with Baba's terkepit story. Well, she got her ARM pinned in between her family car door, which is kesian, by the way because it would hurt like mad. Well it was quite similar to the case my dad had to handle today.

I think kids should NOT be allowed to go out on their own, until they are mature enough to make logical decisions. Here's why:

5 14 yr old KIDS were going up the escalator at the MRT station where we usually go for fishball noodles -nudge nudge-. Well okay the fifth one is still below, so cannot see him in the drawing, ok. So happily they ride the escalator, until...

the first four kids say that the escalator "started to vibrate".

So, what did they decide to do? they...

JUMP! onto the platform thinger where you step OFF the escalator. Yes, 4 of them jumped onto the platorm thing. Seriously, whats wrong with just gently stepping off like everyone?

So because they decided to jump, it compromised the platform in some way, im not an engineer la ok.

that black/yellow thing is the escalator step, moving. So understandably, the platform got wedged by the moving step, and since 4 of them already landed on the platform, the poor 5th one, whom I haven't drawn was stuck on the escalator with no escape, since the platform thinger has trapped him. So his foot got stuck between the step and the platform, and the escalator stopped.

So for their rash and i-don't-know-what-they-were-thinking decision, they had to call the appropriate people (who were at HOME) down on a frickin Saturday afternoon. SCDF came to the rescue too, I think.

Man, really susahkan orang la, these kids.

That's why I say, until they know how to make logical decisions, then they should be allowed out on their own.

Next time don't jump off the escalator hor.

2 strange men and a book.

Well today I was confined at home, to welcome the cooker-hood delivery guy and the electone repairman who were scheduled to come at 2 most stupid times of the day. Cooker-hood came whilst I was still sleeping, so the guy had to see me in my most ghastly state.

The electone guy?

He's just too disgusting for me to say anything. He told me he'd use the toilet. 10 seconds after I heard the door lock, he came out. I didn't hear a flush, I didn't hear the tap on, I didn't hear squat. I entered the toilet (after he left) and it was as ghastly as how cooker-hood guy saw me this morning.

Since I couldn't go out [for the MS marketing meeting (gawd, I'm so going to get kicked out of MS Marketing)] , I went scouting around the house for things to do and I found this library book my sister borrowed. Well, with my sister, its a well-known fact that when she borrows a book, it just means she feels sorry for the book being stuck in the library and wants to take it for a little sightseeing. She never reads it. At most she'll read the back, the first 3 pages or so and then she leaves it all over the house.

The other time she was being more compassionate towards these poor library books, she borrowed 3 of them.
me: Why'd you borrow so many?

her: Oh I want to bring them to Turkey, so you know, can read in the plane cos its a long flight, and probably read before I sleep or in the bus...

me: -rolls eyes- really? Well I'm going to just bring one. (pointing to DVC by Dan Brown) You wanna bet not? I think you're going to sleep on the plane, and in the hotel room. You will bring 3 unread books, and come home with 3 unread books.

her: Tsk, no la, who said? (matter-of-factly) I WILL read okay!

me: okay.

Whilst I finished my DVC on the bus, I thought her 3 books did enjoy the cold turkish air, visiting Troy and whatnots.

So anyways, this book that I found on my study table was admiring my room and making friends with my laptop etc etc before I parted them and started reading it. Its called "They Think it's all Over" by Joel Snape. Well its a story of this English boy, Dylan who has to host a German exchange student, Rudi.

Well its a classic "I'm English and my country is better than yours" VS "I'm German and my country is cleaner than yours". Well Dylan speaks mediocre German, very much like mine, whereas Rudi speaks fantastic English and is a complete weirdo.

So there's a part where Dylan rants about how frustrating (yet easy) the German language can be, and I found it interesting/could identify with him.

"...reading it? That's fine... Speaking it? Not too bad. As long as what I
have to say isn't any more complicated than.. "I like reading and going
swimming," then it's no problem at all..Writing it - again, not too bad. It's all about smudging your 'der's and 'die's so nobody can tell whether you've got the masculine/feminine bits right or not. I mean, its a pointless system anyway - who got to decide that hairdressers are
'masculine' and onions are 'feminine'?
... But understanding it? That's
absolutely impossible. I mean, I understand all the words individually, I know
what's supposed to be going on, but this is what I hear whenever we try a
listening comprehension exercise.

"Guten Tag.""
"Guten Tag. Ich germangermangerman."
"Ah, also germangermangerman? Oder germangermangerman?"
"Germangermangerman."
"Danke schon"
"Bitte sehr."

Honestly."

Haha! I totally know what this poor boy's talking about, man.

I don't get the gender thingers too!

Okay Happy Day people!

What a start!

Gawd, I'm probably the most idiotic person that EVERRRR lived. Yes, thanks for nodding your head. Yesterday, I broke my mum's lasttttt ever Vision pot's cover. (She broke the first one) The pot is SOO huge that there's nothing in my house to cover it.

Worse, when the huge, heavy thing dropped, I used my -hold on to your seats people- FOOT to sort of break the damn fall, and HELLO, shards of glass pierced through my feet, DUH. Seriously, could I get ANY smarter. Gahhhhhh.

My God! Did I think I was some Chinese acrobat or something? So after yanking out all possible fragments of glass and cleaning up the mess, with the help of my trusty sister, I HAD to wash off all the blood and what not.

Wow, what a great start to 2006, man.

So long 2005, you were great.

Before Baba doubts my faltering sanity again, by talking to a year in my entry title thinger, I must reiterate the fact that I had fun being part of 05.

Its undeniable that we are all aging by the minute. Everyone stuck in my generation wants more freedom, less parental restrain, etc etc. Everyone feels mature enough to break free and face the world on their own. Man, I just think as long as I'm living under their roof, doesn't matter if I'm 20 or 67, my business will be their business. Until I'm self sufficient, then I will be brave enough to face the world. Now, I just want to get pass second sem, man.

Anyways, back to 2005.

Well it started off, with me adjusting to being a tutor. Well, I wanted to be a dedicated tutor, wanted my kids to do well, wanted to help their grades as much as I humanly could. Alhamdulillah, when it came to their finals, they did pretty well. That felt good.

Then came the A level results, which I lost unspeakable hours of sleep over. I would wake up in the middle of the night visualising the 2 freaking Stats questions that I left blank in my F.Math paper. I imagined some old guy far, far away in Cambridge shaking his head in disapproval, often yawning in boredom whilst marking my script. That didn't feel so good. But Alhamdulillah, I'm contented with the As.

On and off after that met up regularly with the Satays, army boys can't book out, them getting extra hours for dancing in the storeroom, some getting promoted to OCS. Then it was time for Lydia to fly away to Perth.

Then, NUS! Which was great fun. Well, the people. Met some new people, grew to love some, grew to see the true colours of others, strengthened old friendships. Late night studying, chiong-ing lab reports, skipping lectures, with great company. :)

Exam time again, where it was definitely comforting to see everyone pushing everyone on. Met people who were really generous, sharing notes, etc. Had that stupid jittery feeling again when it was results time.

I finally passed my TP as well, in the midst of the exams. Like, finally!

Amongst the fun with the new friends, I couldn't possibly forget the old.

Many decisions were made, academic and non-academic. But when I was so close to ending something, someone was always there to pull me back. So I HAVE to be grateful for that.

So that's basically MY 2005. Loves it!

How was yours?
